Installation for Supported Operating Systems
For installation instructions and notes, select your operating system from the
list below. Be sure to review the instructions that are included for your OS
to ensure a successful installation.
Windows XP, 2000,
NT, 98, 95
- Download the appropriate installation file for your system configuration.
For additional information on selecting an appropriate runtime, see our Java
Runtimes page.
- Launch the self-extracting installer.
- During installation, you are presented with a Java runtime selection dialog.
If bundled with the installation, select the default included runtime. A local
copy of this runtime will be placed under the application directory. This will
not effect any other installed Java application or Java development.
- Alternatively, you may select a previously installed runtime. Check the
Java Runtimes page for compatibility information
Important Note
- To avoid installation problems, we highly recommend downloading
the ObjectDomain installer with the runtime included.
Mac OS X
- After downloading, launch the self-extracting installer.
Important Notes
- ObjectDomain requires a Java 2 compatible runtime, version 1.3 or greater.
Currently Java 2 is only available under Mac OS X and in fact is built into
the operating system. For more information on Mac OS X and Java, see the following
URL:
http://devworld.apple.com/java
- The installer should be recognized by StuffItExpander and should automatically
expand after downloading. If you experience a problem, you can expand it using StuffItExpander
6.0 or later.
Linux
After downloading:
- Open a shell account
- Change directory to where the file was downloaded
- At the command prompt enter: sh ./<filename>
where <filename> is the name of the downloaded file
Important Notes
- ObjectDomain requires glibc 2.1.2 or greater be installed on your machine
- ObjectDomain requires a Java 2 compatible runtime, version 1.3 or greater.

Solaris
After downloading:
- Open a shell account
- Change directory to where the file was downloaded
- At the command prompt enter: sh ./<filename>

Important Note
- Before installing ObjectDomain, you must first install a Java 2 compatible
runtime, version 1.3 or greater. You can download this from Sun's
website, or contact your OS vendor.
Other Java-enabled
Platforms
After downloading:
- Change directory to where the file was downloaded
- Various platforms will behave differently. At the command prompt, enter
the following:
java -cp sh ./<filename>
where <filename> is the name of the downloaded file
Important Notes
- The above assumes you are using a Java 1.3 compatible runtime.
- Before installing ObjectDomain, you must first install a Java 2 compatible
runtime, version 1.3 or greater. JDK 1.4.1 is preferred.
