Java Runtimes
This page provides helpful information for selecting an appropriate runtime
for a given operating system and hardware configuration. For information on
installing ObjectDomain, see the R3 release notes.
ObjectDomain R3 requires a Java 2 Runtime version 1.3 or greater and is most
compatible with JDK 1.4.1. There are options that are specific to each platform.
Please select your platform below:
Windows
Linux
Mac OS X
Solaris
AIX
HP AX
Other OS
Windows XP, 2000,
NT, 98 95
ObjectDomain R3 requires the Java 2 Platform version 1.3 or greater. ObjectDomain
is most compatible with the JDK 1.4.1 runtime from Sun.
To minimize installation problems we recommend downloading ObjectDomain with
the bundled Sun runtime. Alternatively, you can download Sun's runtime separately
at the following URL:
http://java.sun.com/j2se
Linux
ObjectDomain R3 requires the Java 2 Platform version 1.3 or greater. ObjectDomain
is most compatible with the latest 1.4.1 runtime from Sun.
To minimize installation problems we recommend downloading ObjectDomain with
the bundled Sun runtime. Alternatively, you can download Sun's runtime separately
at the following URL:
http://java.sun.com/j2se
Mac OS X
ObjectDomain requires a Java 2 Runtime version 1.3 or higher. Currently,
Java 2 is only available under Mac OS X and, in fact, is built into the operating
system. For more information on Mac OS X and Java, see the following URL:
http://http://devworld.apple.com/java
Solaris
ObjectDomain R3 requires the Java 2 Platform version 1.3 or greater. ObjectDomain
is most compatible with the latest 1.4.1 runtime from Sun.
To minimize installation problems we recommend downloading ObjectDomain with
the bundled Sun runtime. Alternatively, you can download Sun's runtime separately
at the following URL:
http://java.sun.com/j2se
AIX
ObjectDomain R3 is compatible with IBM's 1.3 runtime for AIX. Although ObjectDomain
is most compatible with JDK 1.4, The AIX port of this version is still in beta
release.
To minimize installation problems we recommend downloading ObjectDomain with
the bundled IBM 1.3 runtime.
Alternatively, you can download it (or the 1.4 beta) separately at the following
URL:
http://java.sun.com/cgi-bin/java-ports.cgi
HP-AX
ObjectDomain R3 requires the Java 2 Platform version 1.3 or greater. ObjectDomain
is most compatible with the latest 1.4.0 runtime from Hewlett-Packard.
To minimize installation problems we recommend downloading ObjectDomain with
the bundled HP runtime. However, the HP runtime is very large and causes the
bundled download to be relatively large. If you already have the HP-UX 1.4.0
runtime installed and are concerned with the large download file, consider
downloading without the bundled runtime.
You can download HP-UX runtime separately at the following URL:
http://java.sun.com/cgi-bin/java-ports.cgi
Other Operating
Systems
ObjectDomain will run on any platform that supports the Java 2 runtime version
1.3 or greater. ObjectDomain is most compatible with JDK 1.4.1. If you are
using an operating system other than those mentioned above, download a compatible
runtime for your platform from the following URL.
http://java.sun.com/cgi-bin/java-ports.cgi
After installing the Java runtime, download and install the appropriate ObjectDomain
file from our download page (without VM included) and follow the installation
instructions for your OS found in the R3 installation release
notes.
